No cloud account
No sign-up, no API key and no per-token bill for the on-device reasoning. The models run where your files already are.
Ronin Inc / Local AI Agent for Mac
A local AI agent runs on your own computer instead of someone else’s cloud. Kingmaker, by Ronin Inc, is that agent for the Mac: open-weight models run on your Apple-silicon chip, it takes orders by voice, and it drives your real apps and your signed-in Chrome — private, on-device, and able to work offline. It still asks you before anything that sends, spends or installs.
Your AI, on your Mac. Free for individuals.
01 / What it is
A cloud assistant sends your words to a company’s servers, runs the model there, and sends an answer back. A local AI agent does the opposite: the model lives on your machine and the thinking happens there.
That one change is what makes it private and able to run offline. Nothing has to leave your Mac for the agent to answer, so there is no account to sign into, no per-token bill, and no third party holding a copy of what you asked. Kingmaker is a local-first build of Solomon, Ronin Inc’s governed AI runtime, packaged for the Mac.
02 / On-device
Kingmaker runs open-weight models on your Mac’s own chip. It suggests a model that fits your Mac and you make the pick. Because the reasoning is local, the core works with no network at all; governed internet access is a tool it reaches for only on your command.
No sign-up, no API key and no per-token bill for the on-device reasoning. The models run where your files already are.
The core reasoning runs without a connection. Turn off the Wi-Fi and the agent still answers.
Your files, prompts and records stay on your Mac and are never turned into training data.
03 / It controls your Mac
Kingmaker is not a chat box. It takes orders by voice and acts on your Mac: it opens and drives your apps and your signed-in Chrome, researches with private search, picks the right tool for a job, and builds websites and creative work with open-source tools like Blender and Godot. You grant it macOS Microphone, Accessibility and Screen Recording the first time, and it runs from your menu bar.
Because it is built on Solomon’s governed runtime, a human yes comes before anything with consequences. Sending a message, spending money or installing software stops at an approval gate until you say yes, and every step leaves a record. Read how that works in AI agent governance.
04 / Private vs cloud
Same open-weight models, a different place to run them. On the cloud your data is the price; on-device it stays yours. A self-hosted, on-device agent means no silent server holding your history, no outage taking your assistant down, and no metered bill that grows with use.
Kingmaker keeps outbound data on a short leash: it moves only through connectors you have authorized, for tasks you asked for, never in the background. More on the reasoning: local-first AI is the governed path and local vs cloud AI.

It keeps your data on your device. Your files, prompts and records stay on your Mac and are never turned into training data. Nothing leaves your machine unless you authorize a specific task.
No. Because the models are open-weight and run on-device, there is no cloud account, no API key and no per-token bill for the local reasoning.
A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 13 or later, 16 GB of memory or more recommended (8 GB works, slower), and about 25 GB free for the knowledge library and models.
